Huntington Bank
In October of 2023, Huntington Bank made an announcement to close 34 branches in the state of Ohio. The Buckeye branch was the only location up for reconsideration.
Since that announcement, Buckeye residents have been mobilizing, forming an action group called the Huntington Bank Citizens Group. Since early 2024, they have gathered over 1,000 petition signatures and have engaged in conversations with Huntington Bank officials, city council members, law enforcement, and residents. They have been working around the clock to keep the bank in Buckeye and improve its services to the community.
In July, A Greater Buckeye & Black Valve Media teamed up to produce a mini documentary to capture the efforts of the residents fighting to keep the bank open and to bring more awareness to this issue.
On Monday, August 12th, three weeks after the release of “Banking on Buckeye: Rallying for Huntington Bank,“ Huntington Bank announced they are keeping their doors open at the Buckeye location!
This resident-led campaign and powerful documentary highlights the strength of neighbors realizing their collective power and the importance of sharing that narrative with the world. Together, there is nothing that cannot be achieved.
