I was at the Greater Buckeye Neighbor Night this past Monday night. Here’s what I heard has happened in the last two months as a direct result of this monthly gathering:
- Personal Support: I heard numerous stories of people who received help from attending. This past Monday night, one person said his oven had been out for over two months and he couldn’t find a repair person to come fix it. Another person at the gathering gave him the number of a friend of hers, and the repair person came Tuesday and fixed the oven in thirty minutes.
- Offering Your Gifts: one person in the marketplace offered to teach yoga in the community last year. She now holds regular trainings at Fairhill partners for people in the community on yoga. This match came from the Marketplace.
- Conversations that result in building community: one Business of the Network (group) conversation in January resulted in a dozen residents getting together to talk and make crafts together. They are now doing this monthly. It’s a great space to relax, get to know others, and use your creative skills.
- Conversations that lead to institutional change: members of the Huntington Bank Working Group came to Neighbor Night over the past year to invite people to join the campaign to reopen the Huntington Bank on Buckeye Road. That bank reopened last fall. Members of this group also attended numerous Neighbor Up Action Clinics to get support in forming and implementing the campaign.
These are just a small sample of what’s happened.
So come on out to a Neighbor Night or another Network gathering to see for yourself!
