Lucille O’Neal is much more than Shaq’s mom.

The mother of the retired NBA star has overcome turmoil in her personal life to become a noted motivational speaker and author. O’Neal, who wrote “Walk Like You Have Somewhere to Go,” will be the keynote speaker Oct. 17 at Shazam!, the annual gala benefitting Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland. The benefit is at the Intercontinental Hotel and Conference Center at Cleveland Clinic.

Tickets, which start at $200, can be purchased by contacting Lauren Pollock at lpollock@clevekids.org or (216) 883-2106.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland, which serves more than 8,000 children at 12 locations in Cleveland’s inner-city neighborhoods as well as in Cleveland Heights and East Cleveland. BGCC provides a safe place for kids to learn and grow, cultivate ongoing relationships with caring adult professionals, take part in life-enhancing programs and develop good character.
